Kaukauna, WI, 1/31/11 - Baisch Engineering, a professional engineering and consulting firm providing full service integration for process related industries, is supporting the N.E.W. Appleton, Wisconsin High Schools Apple Corps Robotics Team (Team 93) for the 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Baisch Engineering is one of the team corporate sponsors and mentors. Jim Thunes, P.E., Baisch Structural Engineer, has volunteered his time to this endeavor for the past eight years, serving as a mentor. Ed Fischer, Baisch Structural Designer, has served as a mentor for the past two years. The 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition game is LogoMotion. Playing pieces are inner tubes shaped like the components of the FIRST logo. In the endgame, robots deploy smaller robots to climb a tower. Those robots must be made from the FIRST Tech Challenge kit of parts. The game celebrates the 20th season of the FRC and is also meant to commemorate the artist Jack Kamen who designed the original FIRST logo. Team 93 is competing in the Wisconsin Regional in Milwaukee on March 10th - 12th, and the Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional in Minneapolis on March 13th - April 2nd. Jim Thunes, P.E., says, "It is a gratifying experience volunteering year after year and mentoring and guiding students to their full potential... seeing their excitement as their project comes to fruition makes it all worthwhile." In addition to sponsoring the Robotics Team, Baisch sponsors a college scholarship to a senior in the Tesla Engineering Charter School at Appleton East High School. The vision of Tesla Engineering Charter School is to be the premier high school to support the engineering and technology needs of the Fox Cities community. |
