No. 14 Tissue Machine
SCA Tissue North America LLC - Barton, Alabama

Baisch first worked for SCA as a sub-contractor on a segment of an earlier large project. SCA then selected Baisch to provide preliminary and final feasibility studies for this large tissue project. We were then selected for the detailed process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and process control/instrumentation project engineering as well.  The project included waste paper storage, a waste paper deink plant feeding a new 200 inch, 70,000 tons per year dry crepe tissue machine, roll handling after the machine, and all buildings and utilities.  Baisch engineered the site work and also had a large involvement in selecting equipment, purchasing, and field liason including commissioning, check-out, and start-up.

The project engineering included a novel and creative building design which enabled a two-month reduction in project time and a significant improvement in project costs.

No. 13 Off-Machine Coater
Potlatch - Northwest Paper Division - Cloquet, Minnesota

Baisch performed a preliminary feasibility study, which led to a new 400,000 tons per year coated printing paper production line.  Baisch provided detailed project process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and process control/instrumentation engineering for a fiber preparation plant, paper machine, off-machine coater, winders, calenders, and product handling and wrapping systems.  Baisch services also included raw material storage and handling, and effluent treatment and utilities including water treatment, steam generation, gas farms, power distribution, and all process and administrative buildings.

This was one of the largest projects in the U.S. Pulp & Paper Industry in the last few decades.  The mill has since been bought from Potlatch by Sappi Fine Paper North America.  Baisch has continued to engineer major projects for both organizations.

Temboard PM 1 Rebuild
Temboard Inc. - Temiscaming, Quebec

Baisch engineered all aspects of a major rebuild of the Temboard PM 1 at the Temiscaming, Quebec mill.  Baisch produced a complete wet end mass balance and a machine speed-up and efficiency study.  The resulting rebuild included a new reject screening system, a new dilution controlled headbox, a major rebuild of the multi-ply forming section, a new hote soft calender, and a new vacuum belt threading system.  Baisch reconfigured the steam and condensate system, and upgraded and integrated the DCS, drive system and tension control throughout the machine.  Baisch provided detailed mechanical installation bid documents, shutdown and check-out assistance for mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation as well as post start-up follow up.

The rebuild was a great success - the machine achieved increased speed and efficiency with greatly improved sheet quality.  The company changed its name in 2002 from Temboard to Tembec.  Baisch has performed many jobs for them since completing this project.
